Stanford’s November 12-14 Wrestlepalooza weekend will offer something for just about every wrestling enthusiast. The Cardinal will be throwing a whole bunch of darts at the California wrestling board with the expectation that more than a few will stick!
The stage is set for the return of Stanford wrestling. On November 13, the Cardinal will face-off against the third-ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys in Maples Pavilion. For the first time ever, Stanford will be selling tickets for its dual.
Since Rob Koll took the reins in late May 2021, the goal for the Stanford wrestling program is no longer to merely survive, but to thrive.
“We expect to become a profit-generating sport, competing for national titles at every weight class. It is not about sustenance but rather national prominence,” said Koll. “To achieve this goal, it is imperative to develop an infrastructure of supportive alumni, fans, and administration. After a tumultuous year, I’m happy to say we have the alumni and administration on our side and now we are focused on cultivating a fan base, particularly within the California wrestling community.”
The first step in this process is packing Maples Pavilion for the Oklahoma State dual meet. Although we have experienced a robust ticket presale, we still have a long way to go for a sell-out. To kick off the weekend, the California Regional Training Center will be hosting its first annual golf tournament on November 12. Located in the foothills above the Stanford University Campus, the Stanford Golf Course is consistently rated one of the finest courses in the world. The California Golf Challenge is a great opportunity to golf on an exclusive course, network with business and wrestling leaders across the country, and support the Stanford wrestling program. This allows the Cardinal program to bring in world-class athletes and coaches to train alongside the college team. Registration for the event can be found at the following link: https://californiartc.org/golf
Accompanying the Stanford/Oklahoma State dual, the Northern California chapter of Wrestlers in Business will host its inaugural meeting. The event will take place at 1 p.m., an hour before Stanford and Oklahoma State square off. Guest speakers include Oklahoma State head wrestling coach John Smith, and Spartan Race CEO, and wrestling enthusiast, Joe Desena.
Wrestlers in Business is a nonprofit networking group for people and businesses passionate about advancing wrestlers' careers, personal growth, and the sport.
