Bert Mar Varsity Tournament
Christopher High School in Gilroy, CA. is pleased to announce the 11th annual Bert Mar invitational tournament. We thank those of you who attended last year and hope you can return again next year.
Coach Mar, affectionately known as The God Father of Wrestling in Gilroy, was a Nor-Cal Champion in 1964, and the head coach at South Valley Middle School. South Valley Middle School has won over 30 county championship team titles over the decades, most of which with Coach Mar at the helm. During his tenure the Tigers were undefeated in dual meets for more than 28 years. Coach is very vocal about his purpose and philosophy saying, "I think everybody was put on this Earth for a reason, and mine was to work with kids, especially troubled kids, I try to make kids believe in themselves. Sometimes they go astray but we pull them back in. You can't give up on a kid.”
The tournament will be on Saturday December 16th on the campus of Christopher High School: 850 Day Rd. Gilroy, Ca. The tournament will only have brackets in the boys division and hope to add a girls division in the coming years. Brackets will be double elimination format with medals being awarded to the top 6 of each weight class. Awards will also be given to the top 3 teams as well as MOW Lower weight and MOW Upper weight.
